The 'Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator' – An AED (automated external defibrillator) in the workplace is an invaluable addition to health and safety provision for employees (proven to save lives). With an installation of any AED in the workplace It is best to source training to ensure all staff feel comfortable in the use of this equipment.

This Level 2 Award in 'Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator' qualification is designed to provide candidates with the skills needed to administer safe, prompt and effective basic life support and use an AED safely in emergency situations.
The majority of people who survive a cardiac arrest are resuscitated from ventricular fibrillation (VF) by the administration of a defibrillatory shock. This is most likely to be successful when it is given very soon after the onset of VF; emergency service personnel are often unable to arrive soon enough to help a victim.
Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator – Course Content:
Candidates will be required to participate in practical scenario-based training that reflects typical AED scenario's.
- DRABC check and sending for help
- Defibrillation (recognition of heart rhythms)
- CPR and use of AED on a casualty
- Primary assessment
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in adults and children
- Obstructed Airway Management (choking)
- Safety and Maintenance
- Connecting the AED to a casualty (Demonstration, Practice and Assessment)
- Use to defibrillate a casualty (Demonstration, Practice and Assessment)
- Controlling bleeding and treatment for shock
- Administer first aid to an unconscious casualty (including seizure)
- Handover to the emergency services

Suitable for people 18 years and over, this course is designed for workplace candidates who wish to be trained in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) machine. The course is ideal for Nursery Managers and staff, Teachers and School assistants, Sport centre staff and Retail staff.

The ‘Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator’ training is designed to give the necessary basic life support skills, this includes Resuscitation techniques to all candidates. This enables Staff to apply the AED procedures in a confident manner during a First Aid emergency.
On successful completion of this Basic Life Support and Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator training, delegates will be able to carry out basic life support with the aid of an AED unit to a competent and safe standard. Deal with incident safety management and know how to maintain and test the equipment used.
Delegates who have successfully completed this course will receive a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation Level 2 Qualification – Valid for 1 Year.

Did you know that we also deliver the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation training directly in the workplace.
It is not compulsory for employers to purchase AEDs to comply with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) regulations 1981. However, if your needs assessment identifies an AED need then we recommend your staff should be fully trained in its use.
The Resuscitation Council UK guidance on AEDs is that this equipment is safe to use and can be readily used by untrained bystanders.
