Mandatory training is a requirement based upon the responsibility for nursing staff to work in a safe manner. The training modules in the Mandatory Moving and Handling of People Course are appropriate in depth to the level of understanding needed.

Course aims:
The Moving and Handling of People training course provides substantial background knowledge on the subject of moving and handling. It will enable care homes and healthcare services to build on the information gained from this course and provide the practical aspect of training on the job, saving long hours in classrooms. This combination of knowledge plus practical training at work can greatly reduce the amount of injuries from poor moving and handling practices.

This Moving and Handling of people training course is presented by means of tutorials, practical exercises and group discussions over 4 hours and course content includes:

- Anatomy of the Spine and Types of Injuries
- Manual Handling Responsibilities
- Key Elements of People Moving
- Biomechanics and Ergonomics
- People Moving Equipment
- People Moving and Risk Assessments/ Personal Plan
- Recording and Reporting
- Moving a Person in a Bed and Use of Slings/Host
- Risk Assessment
- Health and Safety at Work 1974
Assessment and Certification:
At the end of the training candidates will have the competence to provide correct people handling techniques so that risks are reduced to them and patients/residents. There will be continued assessment throughout the course by the tutor. Each Candidate will receive a Certificate of attendance which is valid for 3 years.
